Acid regeneration. SMS Siemag regeneration plants use fluidized bed and spray roasting technologies to recover 99.8 percent of the acid from pickling processes for recycling. Every hour, an average pickling mill generates 10 to 20 m3 of spent acid. That's around 20 to 40 tons. Disposing of this quantity takes one to two tankers per hour. The latest development at SMS Siemag also sets new standards of energy saving. Hydrothermal acid regeneration is a chemical process that takes place at a maximum temperature of 170° C. Conventional methods require a process temperature of 700 to 900° C, which consumes much more energy.

Foam slag briquettes. New on the market is a development for more efficient production of rust-free stainless steels. The SMS Siemag patented process uses what we've named foam slag briquettes. It accelerates smelting by up to 10 percent, improves metal yield, and extends the service life of refractory linings as well as the electrodes in electric arc furnaces. All this is possible although the briquettes consist largely of residual substances such as EAF dust, rolling scale, and grinding dust. Even more, this also reduces high disposal costs. The bottom line: the briquettes produce foam slag similar to the slag achieved during production of carbon steel by blasting coal and oxygen into the furnace. Our foam slag briquettes now give you these benefits in stainless steel production too.

Multi-plate filters. Multi-plate filters from SMS Siemag are just one of a whole range of machines that clean all kinds of cooling lubricants (emulsions and oils) used in rolling. You benefit because they are efficient and above all budget-friendly. These filters are a real success story, and already standard in aluminum hot and cold rolling mills. They filter some 30,000 liters of rolling oil per minute in cold rolling mills. And because of their modular design, we can customize our multi-plate filters to your requirements at minimal cost. Once cleaned, the liquid is ready to be used again in the rolling process.
