Aluminum needs silicon
To ensure aluminum features the required material properties, it must be alloyed. Only then can you achieve, say, strengths comparable to steel, but at a much lighter weight. One of the main alloy materials used in aluminum is silicon metal.
SMS Siemag holds a market share of more than 80 percent in the field of large silicon smelting furnaces. The success of our smelting furnace plants based on SAF technology results from their unique design features. Most striking here is the fact that our furnaces can be rotated, but are simultaneously mounted in oscillating bearings. This produces a turning motion perfect for achieving ideal smelting conditions.
