New "core" for Aleris Koblenz
The installation of the new hot rolling millstand at Aleris Aluminum in Koblenz was one of the most spectacular revamps in the last few years. Within just 20 days, we dismantled the existing 148" plant at the end of 2007 and replaced it by a 160" stand. For a quick revamp and brief commissioning, the entire stand had been set up beforehand with all mechanical and electrical components next to the pass line and then tested and operated in "shadow mode". With this new stand, Aleris can roll thicker, wider and longer plates and is thus well geared to meet future requirements. At the end of 2006 we had succeeded in installing the new drive train within a revamp time of just 18 days.
