Plate cooling system at Rautaruukki, Finland
As the first European manufacturer of heavy plate, Rautaruukki invested in a combined spray and laminar plate-cooling system: Its particularly high cooling rates mean that plates of higher strength and ductility than in conventional cooling facilities can be manufactured.

The new spray cooling system was installed in the first third of the laminar plate-cooling system supplied by us in 1990. The revamp was performed in two steps. During the 2006 summer shutdown, the first eight meters of the laminar cooling system were dismantled and a provisional roller table bridge was installed. Over the remaining length, Rautaruukki replaced the lower cooling headers by new, more efficient headers and thus enhanced the cooling capacity of the mill. In 2007 we then installed the spray cooling and a pre-leveler in the entry section of the mill.
