4.3-m heavy-plate mill, Shougang, China
A novel achievement by us was the erection of the 4.3-m heavy-plate mill at Qinhuangdao Shouqin Metal Materials (in short, Shougang): a mill housing in split and bolted design. It was only on the site that the mill housing yokes and housing posts were firmly joined with each other by means of special tension rods. This approach simplifies casting of the mill housing, cuts delivery times and makes shipment easier. At the same time, controlled prestressing of the tension rods ensures minimum hourglassing of the mill housing under load and hence very good plate travel and an excellent plate geometry.
In addition to the millstands, we also supplied the laminar plate cooling, the hot plate leveler, cooling beds and the dividing and trimming shears, and we were also responsible for some parts of the automation.
