Ipsco, USA: CoilPlate® mill
The mill of Ipsco at Montpelier, Iowa (USA) is a typical example of the CoilPlate® design concept. The facility enables Ipsco to produce both heavy plate of a thickness as high as 50 mm and hot strip (with a minimum thickness of 2.3 mm), which allows to respond flexibly to the market demand.
The Ipsco mill has an annual capacity of 1.2 million tons. The process stages steel making, continuous casting and rolling are closely interlinked to make sure that the route from steel to the finished product is short and the required amount of energy is maintained at a low level.
