MORGOIL® roll-neck bearings. High rolling forces at both low and high speeds, heat, dirt, scale and roll coolants – roll-neck bearings have to stand up to extreme conditions. One type has proved especially suited to these requirements over more than five decades: the MORGOIL® roll-neck bearing. It ensures the rolls perform with optimum precision at high operational reliability, yet require little maintenance.

Film stars. MORGOIL® roll-neck bearings are completely enclosed friction bearings designed according to hydrodynamic lubrication theory. They utilize the high bearing capacity of a continuous film of oil that prevents any contact between the metal of the roll neck and the bearing. The roll necks glide on the oil film. Here, the oil is not just a lubricant, but a structural element like any other bearing component. Since 1954, SMS Siemag has held the license of the Morgan Construction Company – the inventor of the MORGOIL® bearing. Our close partnership means we are always among the first companies to use new or improved MORGOIL® technologies.

Heavy-duty: the KLX. The KLX model is the latest development in MORGOIL® bearings. For Baoshan Iron & Steel’s 5-m heavy-plate rolling mill, we built one of the world’s largest MORGOIL® KLX bearings in compact design for short support roll necks. It is an exceptionally robust and low-maintenance roll bearing in a heavy mill stand, and it features a bearing capacity of 58,000 kN per bearing for 12 to 40 rpm. The bearing bushes have an inner diameter measuring 1,670 mm and they are 1,280 mm wide. Latest-technology KLX bearings require fewer component parts per bearing. Made of high-strength ULC® bearing metal, the bearing bushes come with a hydraulic clamping and release system for rapid part changing. That leads to significant cost and maintenance savings.
