That’s why we constantly work on getting ever closer to the ideal value. To this end, our X-Pact® electric and automation controls, monitors, and regulates your entire cold rolling process.
All together. It is a vital feature of our solutions for cold rolling mills that a whole range of systems mesh together harmoniously. The power supply and distribution, drive technology, instruments and automation including production planning work together in unison with the mechanical equipment.
Our process models allow for the current state of the plant, such as roll wear, thermal condition, coolants, and lubricants. They ensure appropriate acceleration and braking phases as well as optimal coordination of rolling force, torque, and rolling speed for high product quality and productivity of your plant.
As a part of pass schedule calculation, our T-roll® model simulates the process in the roll gap. It builds on this to work out precise pass schedules, and perfectly adjusts the cooling and lubrication to the rolled product. Our model-based pass schedule calculation system focuses above all on the temperature limits to be observed for various product groups. Based thereon, highly dynamic technological controls ensure the exact thickness, profile, flatness, and width of the products.
Intelligent flatness measuring roll. Exact flatness measuring and control is essential for the desired product quality and productivity of your entire process line. It’s all about detecting even slightest deviations in the strip tension distribution before they can affect quality. That is why the heart of our new flatness measuring system is the flatness measuring roll. Practically acting as an early warning system, it picks up the smallest tolerance deviations. Before they can have a negative impact, the control system kicks in and ensures the required strip flatness.
Plug & Work. You can count on our Plug & Work strategy for increased effectiveness during commissioning. It involves installing your entire automation system at SMS Siemag before delivery. Then we test it under real-life conditions against a simulation system and optimize it. This also gives you the opportunity to let your operating personnel train in a realistic scenario. It all provides an excellent basis for a steep run-up curve and early production start.
