Here is a selection of our most recent and outstanding slab casters.

Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH, Germany. A full eleven days ahead of schedule, the continuous caster No. 3 we supplied went into production at Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH. It represents an investment of some EUR 71 million by the Salzgitter group in its growth strategy. “We’ve taken a huge step forward”, says Ulrich Grethe of Salzgitter. “With the new plant, we have increased productivity, expanded our range of steel grades, plus we can produce even more cost-effectively.” Equally important, the new slab caster is equipped with latest technologies and automation components that support the production of high-quality steels and give the caster top versatility. The overall capacity of all three plants adds up to some 4.7 million t of steel per year. Today, Salzgitter offers one of the world’s broadest product ranges.

Manshan Iron & Steel Co. Ltd., PR China. Only six months after itaccepted its CSP® plant, Masteel ordered two complete slab casters from us. They each feature two casting strands and are designed for an annual capacity of 5.7 million t. Essential for achieving this performance are the high-speed casters with a maximum casting speed of 2.5 m/min. Our customer benefits from our one-stop-shop, all-inclusive supply package comprising engineering, mechanical equipment, complete electrics and automation, erection and commissioning. Now Masteel uses the new plants to manufacture top-quality products for the automotive and construction industries, bridge construction, power station equipment and tube production.

Mittal Steel, Dabrowa Górnicza works, Poland. It is down to our two-strand slab caster that Mittal Steel’s Polish outfit is diversifying into flat products. We are developing, building and supplying everything on a turnkey basis. Specifically, that means the mechanics, electrics, automation, erection, commissioning, training, extension of the casting shop, water treatment plant, cranes and concrete or steel structures. Once the plant is finished, its annual production will be some 3 million t.

Ural Steel, Russia. Only three months of erection time were necessary before we commissioned a single-strand slab caster at Ural Steel in Novotroizk. The very first ladle was fully cast into slabs. Included in the casting program are peritectic grades as well as construction steels. It is clear from the problem-free commissioning that our high quality level right from the start ensures a productivity edge and reliable nonstop operation.
