The range. Our continuous slab casters literally open up new dimensions. There’s the plant we built for Dillinger Hütte that produces the thickest slabs in the world, and another for Anyang Iron & Steel that achieves the world’s widest slabs. But this is not about breaking records. These exceptional machines give their owners the capacity to respond to today’s demand for high-quality products with top rates of efficiency and flexibility. The ultra-thick and wide slabs, for instance, form unique initial products for ship and pipeline sheet.

The highlights. Anyang’s slab caster produces slabs up to 3,250 mm wide and 150 mm thick – at a maximum casting speed of 2 m/min. Included among the plant’s highlights are our Breakout Prediction System® and Mold Monitoring System® that combine to create what we call the “transparent mold”. This gives the operator a real-time, comprehensive view of the casting process at all times. Equally important, the homogenous internal quality of the slabs is achieved through the smooth meshing of several technologies. Specifically, they are Dynamic Solidification Control® (DSC) with dual-media or air-mist secondary cooling (water and air) and width-dependent spraying system, the hydraulic segment adjustment and Dynamic Soft Reduction®.

Plug & Work. Even while our plants are being constructed, we put together the entire automation system in the SMS Siemag test center. This Plug & Work strategy means that we test, optimize and perfect the whole automation system well in advance. Also at this early stage, we intensively train your personnel. What you gain: much faster and easier commissioning.
