Minimum carbon content, maximum quality
Here’s what it does. Today, they belong to the basic equipment in modern steelworks: our VOD plants for cost-effective production of top-purity stainless steel grades. We have constantly improved and optimized the vacuum oxygen decarburization (VOD) process in our plants to achieve even better efficiency and quality. They impress not only with perfect homogenization of the ladle contents, but also with highly effective oxygen lances that reduce steel splashing. Tuyere bricks are installed on the ladle bottom for inert gas stirring. The result: slag-free tapping from the smelting unit.
Here’s how it works. Due to the lower partial pressure of the carbon in the vacuum, decarburization of high-alloyed heats minimizes the carbon content. Simultaneously, this method achieves a chromium-rich yield without excessive refining. Our VOD plants usually work in combination with an electric arc furnace (DUPLEX process) or together with an EAF and an MRP / AOD converter (TRIPLEX process).
Design advantages:
- Fixed tank above or below the plant floor
- Movable tank
- Double tank for high availability
- Vacuum ladle
